Across all industries, changes in consumer finance led to a 44 percent increase in job cut announcements in September. U.S.-based employers planned to cut about 55,285 from their payrolls that month, according to the consultants. That’s up 43.7 percent from August, and up 70.9 percent year over year.
Other industries, including retailers and financial sectors, led job cut announcements year to date, with 85,385 and 38,935 cuts, respectively.
