Healthcare Hiring Increases Slightly

After several years of down employment, healthcare industry hiring is up again, though the pace of new jobs remains far lower than a few years ago, according to a Los Angeles Times report.

Allina Hospitals and Clinics in Minneapolis is hiring around 900 positions, while Fairview Health Services, also in Minneapolis, is advertising more than 500 openings, according to the report.

Healthcare job growth has stayed below 2 percent through 2009 and 2010. According to the Los Angeles Times, the slump can be attributed to cuts in government programs, the increase of high-deductible plans and a squeeze by private insurers.
