Healthcare employment rose by 23,000 jobs this past March, slightly below the 24-month moving average of 24,000, and hospitals accounted for roughly 8,000 of those jobs. In December 2007, healthcare accounted for 9.49 percent of all jobs.
The Altarum Institute also released other economic indicators. In February 2013, national healthcare expenditures grew 3.9 percent year-over-year, bringing the rate back down to the historic lows in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Healthcare price growth rose 1.7 percent this past February, slightly above January’s reading, which was the lowest rate of healthcare price growth since December 1997.
