The agreement was announced earlier this week but no specific details were disclosed. Now, the two groups are saying the agreement will involve USF physician staffing for the trauma centers at five HCA hospitals in Florida. HCA will spend approximately $20 million to expand and equip the centers, according to the report.
The five hospitals involved include Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, Fla.; Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson, Fla.; Kendall Regional Medical Center in Miami; Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce, Fla.; and Orange Park Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla.
All five hospitals have applied for Level II trauma center designation, according to the report.
Tampa General Hospital is opposing the plan, arguing that there is not evidence that an expansion of trauma services in the area is warranted.
HCA and USF aim to have all of the new centers open and operating by Oct. 1, 2011.
