HCA, which operates 164 hospitals and 114 surgery centers, intends to use PatientKeeper to further develop its EHR and provide more capabilities to physicians, including computerized physician order entry and medication reconciliation.
“Our combined companies are positioned to provide a unique approach to EHR that will foster the safest and most effective care for our patients,” said Jonathan B. Perlin, MD, HCA’s CMO.
Physicians at HCA-affiliated hospitals have been using PatientKeeper to access their patients’ information for the past seven years. The software allows the physicians to access the information across a number of hospital systems.
After the completion of the sale, Paul Brient, PatientKeeper’s current president and CEO, will serve as CEO of the organization, which will operate a wholly-owned subsidiary of HCA.
“This is an opportunity to align a software vendor with one of the leading healthcare providers in the world,” said Mr. Brient. “It gives us a platform that will allow for real-time innovation and the opportunity to improve the delivery of healthcare.”
The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
