In a memo to employees, Google announced the interim health CEO would be Linus Upson, engineering chief of Alphabet subsidiary Verily, which focuses on life sciences. He’s also the former Google Chrome engineer.
Mr. Upson was selected to oversee the health effort as he has already been a key player in driving success across the various Alphabet health units, Google said. At Verily, Mr. Upson is responsible for a project called “Debug,” which aims to curb the spread of disease-carrying mosquitoes.
Employees at Verily and Alphabet were told that they will work closely with the newly formed health team led, at least for the moment, by Mr. Upson.
