The bill bans most abortions after six weeks — before most women know they are pregnant — according to the Savannah Morning News.
The bill makes exceptions for “removing a dead unborn child caused by spontaneous abortion” and ectopic pregancy, but the cause of miscarriage could be difficult to prove, legal experts told the newspaper. The National Advocates for Pregnant Women documented 1,331 arrests and detentions of pregnant women from 2006 to 2020, with actions during pregnancy as part of the crime.
