The move is an attempt to make the hospital more competitive and customer-friendly in hopes of attracting more privately insured patients to the struggling facility. According to the report, approximately 60 percent of hospitals in the region offer private rooms.
Semi-private rooms will remain at Ryder Trauma Center and Holtz Children’s Hospital as well as some intensive care units in the flagship facility, according to the report.
