Dr. Levine oversaw the merger of the University of Massachusetts Medical Center with Memorial Healthcare, which prevented many physicians and patients in Wocester, Mass., from having to seek treatment in Boston, according to the report.
Colleagues interviewed in the report remembered Dr. Levine as a mentor and a teacher, first and foremost. He was also described as a respected clinician and hospital administrator.
Dr. Levine began his career as a hematologist before moving into healthcare administration, according to the report. In his retirement, he mentored and counseled in fields including biotechnology, higher education and philanthropy.
