Jim Moss, former president and CEO of Jackson-based West Tennessee Healthcare, died Jan. 22. He was 78.
During his tenure from 1981 to 2008, Mr. Moss transformed the hospital into a comprehensive healthcare system, expanding access across the region, the health system said in a Jan. 22 Facebook post.
He also played a key role in creating the system’s heart program, establishing the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation, and expanding EMS services as well as rural hospital, post-acute and community-based care.
“These initiatives were not just strategic achievements; they were reflections of his unwavering belief that every person deserves compassionate, high-quality healthcare close to home,” the system said.
Mr. Moss was also known for cultivating a culture rooted in love and respect for others, according to the post.
“He believed healthcare was, at its core, a calling to serve others, and he lived that belief every day. He would often say, ‘People don’t care how much you know til they know how much you care,'” the post said. “His impact will be felt for generations, not only in the programs he built, but in the lives he touched and the leaders he inspired.”
