Former Maryland hospital COO dies

Janice Bowen, the former COO of Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville, Md., died Oct. 26, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Ms. Bowen died from a glioblastoma at the age of 67.

She began her more than 30-year tenure at Springfield Hospital in 1975 and held various roles at the psychiatric hospital before becoming COO.

As COO, Ms. Bowen oversaw two major projects at the hospital: a transition from oil heating to natural gas, and the modernization of the hospital’s IT system.

She retired as COO in 2008.
