Tom Huebner, former president and CEO of Rutland (Vt.) Regional Medical Center, died March 26 at age 71 after a battle with cancer, according to a March 28 Facebook post from the hospital and a March 27 report from Vermont Public.

Mr. Huebner joined the hospital in 1990 as vice president of corporate services and was named CEO in 1997. He served in the role for 21 years until his retirement in 2018.

During his tenure, Rutland Regional opened the region’s first treatment center for opioid addiction, expanded psychiatric services, and upgraded its emergency department, Vermont Public reported.

“Tom’s influence and leadership are embedded in the culture of RRMC and will be felt for many years to come,” the hospital wrote in its statement. “We were so truly lucky to have Tom as a part of our hospital family. He will be greatly missed and will always hold a special place in the history of RRMC — as a leader, colleague and friend, and an inspiration to all.”
