Tameka Campbell, who was diagnosed with progressive demyelinating neuropathy, stayed at the hospital for five years from Aug. 2004-June 2009. Court documents do not detail what medical services were rendered for Ms. Campbell’s bill to reach the staggering figure. Ms. Campbell’s mother, Holly Bennett, believes the hospital is attempting to stop her from suing the hospital for negligent care, according to the report.
According to court documents, Ms. Bennett and hospital were at odds over Ms. Campbell’s care. A court eventually ordered Ms. Bennett be removed as Ms. Campbell’s guardian and replaced by a professional guardian after she refused to allow hospital clinicians to place a feeding tube in her daughter.
Attorney specializing in healthcare presume the hospital filed the complaint in order to get a share of any future money toward the estate, according to the report.
