Although the apartments are open to all applicants, hospital employees will be given priority. They will not receive any discounts, however, and will pay market-rate rent.
The hospital plans to use the housing as a tool to recruit employees, and has considered leasing some units on a short-term basis to new employees. A survey found Florida Hospital employees were three times more attracted to the on-campus apartments compared with other workers elsewhere in the country for similar projects, according to the report.
The project is expected to target annual household incomes of $40,000 to $70,000 for 80 percent of the units. The rest are slated to be designed for tenants with higher incomes, according to the report.
