In 2013, Mr. Scott said he supported Medicaid expansion under the ACA, but he opposed a 2015 state Senate proposal that would have expanded coverage for 800,000 Florida residents.
Florida Democrats have now launched “The Time is Now: Medicaid Expansion Tour” to campaign around the state and bring attention to Mr. Scott’s change of direction on Medicaid.
“There’s a huge number of people out there who would have benefited from access and coverage under the Medicaid program,” Karen Woodall, executive director of the Florida Center for Fiscal and Economic Policy, told WCTV. “He’s trying to have it both ways. You can’t say I believe that people with pre-existing conditions should not be denied and then support a lawsuit that will undo that.”
