Baystate Health, based in Springfield, Mass., will lay off 169 employees and entirely eliminate 185 vacant posts due to the economy and state cost containment policies, according to a Boston Globe news report.
The health system faces a potential loss of $79 million in 2011 and 2012 “if expenses aren’t curbed,” according to a news release. The staff changes are expected to take effect by Aug. 19.
