Dr. Davidson entered the spotlight when he debated Rep. Bill Huizenga, R-Mich., at a local town hall in February. The exchange lasted more than 10 minutes, after which time many attendees asked Dr. Davidson why he was not running for office.
Dr. Davidson believes the ACA has good qualities that must be kept as part of a new plan, but thinks that first the bill must be repealed. However, he described the AHCA as a tax-cut for wealthy citizens disguised as a healthcare bill.
Dr. Davidson plans to run as a Democrat and has already begun raising campaign funds.
Officials from Mr. Huizenga’s office state that the congressman is not yet thinking about his 2018 election.
