Dr. Eugene Washington tapped to join Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals board: 3 things to know

Eugene Washington, MD, chancellor for health affairs at Duke University and president and CEO of the Duke University Health System, based in Durham, N.C., has been named to the boards of directors for Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, according to an Insurance News Weekly report.

Here are three things to know about Dr. Washington.

1. He is currently a member of the Johnson & Johnson board, and has served on various boards, such as the board of trustees of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Scientific Management Review Board of the National Institutes of Health, and the board of directors of the California HealthCare Foundation and the California Wellness Foundation, according to the report.

2. Previously, he was vice chancellor of health sciences and dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, and CEO of the UCLA Health System.

3. He also previously served as executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of California, San Francisco. There he co-founded and directed UCSF’s Medical Effectiveness Research Center for Diverse Populations, and was chairman of the department of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences, according to the report.
