Democratic Party shies away from 'Medicare for All'

The Democratic Party is sounding the alarm "at all levels" that "Medicare for All" is a liability for the 2020 election, according to The New York Times.

Warnings are coming from the likes of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former President Barack Obama, as well as union leaders, swing district candidates and party strategists, according to the report. The fear is that Medicare for All, which would replace private insurance and the ACA with a single-payer system, is too liberal and puts the electoral gains of 2018 and 2019 at risk, according to the report.

Although the national debate stage has been dominated by discussion on Medicare for All, the report notes that Democratic candidates in the 10 most competitive Senate races do not support a single-payer plan, instead opting for more moderate reforms.

Medicare for All supporters, on the other hand, say the bold plan will invigorate and motivate voters rather than scare them away.
