Dean of OHSU medical school critically injured

Mark Richardson, MD, dean of Portland-based OregonHealth & ScienceUniversity's medical school, was critically injured over the weekend after falling from a high height while performing home repairs, according to the Portland Business Journal.

Dr. Richardson's prognosis is uncertain, as of 5 p.m. PDT on Aug. 17.

In a statement, OHSU officials said Dr. Richardson is receiving intensive care at a metro-area hospital, and given the nature of his injuries, he will be unable to serve as the medical school's dean "for a significant period of time," according to the report. During his leave, Joe Robertson, MD, president and former dean of the medical school, will serve as acting dean.

Dr. Richardson became dean of the School of Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University in July 2007. In addition, he serves as president and chair of the board of directors of the Faculty Practice Plan.
