Conservative activist groups push Senate to repeal ACA taxes

A group of 45 conservative activist organizations sent a letter to Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, chairman of the senate finance committee, urging him to make sure all ACA taxes are repealed in the AHCA, according to the Washington Post.

There has been talk of retaining some ACA taxes in the new bill in order to fund a gradual phase out of the ACA’s Medicaid expansion. The House version of the AHCA would cut off that funding in 2020, while moderates like Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, have suggested keeping funding until 2027.

The division between moderates and conservatives on the matter of Medicaid has been one of the biggest roadblocks for senate passage of the AHCA, with mounting pressure from outside groups for conservative senators not to waiver on tax repeal.

Groups behind the letter to Mr. Hatch include Americans for Tax Reform, Club for Growth and FreedomWorks, among others.
