The consolidation would close Huron Hospital in East Cleveland and transfer patients to Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. Officials, however, are concerned that the change in location will mean longer 911 response times and a longer patient commute, possibly endangering local residents’ lives.
Officials are looking into the reasons behind the consolidation. U.S. Rep. Marcia Fudge (D – Ohio) has asked the Clinic to share information with the public that explains the consolidation, according to the report.
East Cleveland Mayor Gary Norton says he “sincerely and vigorously” questions the logic behind the Clinic’s decision, according to a citation in the report.
