Payroll tax revenue from the new Huron Community Health Center is expected to be significantly less than that from the current hospital.
The new facility will include outpatient services, including primary care, specialized care for women and children and mental health services; navigation services to direct patients to financial and community resources; and prevention, wellness and health education programs.
Despite the Cleveland Clinic’s agreement with East Cleveland, the city of Cleveland filed a lawsuit to keep emergency/trauma services at Huron Hospital open. The clinic wrote in a statement that the hospital is disappointed the city is using litigation rather than dialogue to resolve the issue. The clinic also said it could not maintain a safe trauma program at Huron Hospital due to low patient volume but that it will continue to provide trauma care through the Northern Ohio Trauma System.
On June 6 Cleveland Clinic announced it would close Huron Hospital in 90 days and open a new Huron Community Health Center on Oct. 3.
