CEO to know: Peter Fine of Banner Health

Peter Fine, MHA, took the wheel of Phoenix-based Banner Health as president and CEO in November 2000.

Banner Health is one of the nation's largest secular, nonprofit healthcare systems. It employs nearly 40,000 people and operates 25 hospitals across seven states. Banner has approximately $5 billion in revenue and is Arizona's second largest private employer.

Previously, Mr. Fine served as executive vice president and COO of Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care, and before that, as president of West Allis (Wis.) Memorial Hospital, part of Aurora Health Care. Prior to joining Aurora, Mr. Fine served as CEO of Grant Hospital and senior vice president of operations at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, both in Chicago. He also previously served as assistant administrator of Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, Ind.

Mr. Fine is engaged in numerous community and national healthcare association commitments. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare executives and is a former member of its board of governors. He is also a member of the American Hospital Association, Health Management Academy, Greater Phoenix Leadership and serves on the board of directors for Premier. He previously served on the Arizona Commission on Medical Education and Research, the Citizen's Task Force on the Maricopa County Health Care System and the Citizen's Finance Review Commission for Arizona.
