CEO to know: Mark Nichols of Starr Regional Medical Center

Mark Nichols has led the 190-bed Starr Regional Medical Center as CEO since July 2014. He leads the medical center’s two campuses in Etowah, Tenn., and Athens, Tenn., which are part of LifePoint Hospitals’ Eastern Group.

Mr. Nichols is an accomplished healthcare administrator with more than 30 years of experience. He most recently led 147-bed LewisGate Hospital Pulaski (Va.) as CEO, a position he held since 2010.

Before that, he held numerous leadership positions with Hospital Corporation of America hospitals for nine years, since 1991. Mr. Nichols served as CEO of Coliseum Northside Hospital, COO of Coliseum Health System, CEO of Coliseum Psychiatric Center and CEO of HCA-Middle Georgia Hospital, all in Macon, Ga. He also served as CEO of Cedartown, Ga.-based HCA-Polk Medical Center and COO of Dublin, Ga.-based HCA-Park Hospital.

Mr. Nichols earned his master’s in health services administration from the University of Illinois.
