CEO profile: June Altaras of Swedish Seattle

In November, June Altaras, RN, MN, was chosen to be the next CEO of Swedish Seattle. She will step into the role on Jan. 1, 2015.

When she becomes CEO, she will leave her current role as senior vice president of patient care and CNO of Swedish Health Services in Seattle. In this role, she assisted in the creation of a nursing center of excellence within Swedish Health Services, which helped Swedish become a distinguished nursing organization nationwide. Since February 2014, Ms. Altaras has worked as COO for Swedish Seattle, which includes two of the Swedish System's largest campuses, First Hill and Cherry Hill.

Ms. Altaras has worked to improve patient safety, quality and service throughout her career. In 2010, she spoke before the U.S. Congress on safe patient handling programs. She also helped develop the system's award-winning Culture of Safety program.

Ms. Altaras first joined Swedish in 1986. She is an affiliate faculty member of the University of Washington School of Nursing in Seattle.
