CEO of Maine health system faces no-confidence vote from medical staff

The medical staff at Bridgton (Maine) Hospital issued a unanimous vote of no confidence in the CEO of the hospital's parent company, Lewiston-based Central Maine Healthcare, according to the Portland Press Herald.

Central Maine Healthcare President and CEO Jeff Brickman was the target of the vote, which came amid concerns about financial problems and service cuts at Bridgton Hospital.

The 20-0 vote included physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants at Bridgton Hospital. The clinicians are displeased with Mr. Brickman's management style and his unwillingness to receive input from medical staff, an unnamed hospital employee told the Portland Press Herald.

Mr. Brickman was named CEO of Central Maine Healthcare in 2016 during a tumultuous time for the health system, Central Maine Healthcare director of public relations and community affairs Kate Carlisle told the Portland Press Herald.

"The leadership team joined Central Maine Healthcare at a time of substantial financial shortfalls and shifts in the healthcare landscape, particularly in Maine," she said. "Changes, some of them significant, have been necessary to face these issues, and we understand that even necessary change is difficult."

However, Ms. Carlisle said Central Maine Healthcare leadership remains committed to the staff and patients at Bridgton Hospital.

"The leadership of [Central Maine Healthcare] values our providers, staff, patients and communities, and will continue to work collaboratively to address any issues or concerns identified," she said.
