University of Texas Medical Branch May Close Women’s Hospital Due to State Budget Cuts

The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, may close its Austin (Texas) Women’s Hospital due to state budget cuts, according to a KXAN report.

UTMB leaders shrank the health system’s budget by $114 million over the next two years in response to the state’s budget cuts. Austin Women’s Hospital, which operates inside University Medical Center Brackenridge, provides family planning and maternity services to low-income women, according to the report.
