Hospital officials report ED waiting times for a patient to see an emergency physician sit at approximately 45 minutes, though other complaints from families and even a city commissioner report list wait times of 10-12 hours or five hours, respectively, according to the news report.
Part of the multimillion-dollar expansion includes building more private patient rooms, and the hospital hopes to have 36 new rooms by the end of this year. Hospital officials also recognized part of the ED overcrowding problem is due to a lack of primary care physicians who could otherwise serve those waiting patients and are looking to hire two more physicians with offices in Delton, according to the news report.
Meanwhile, the hospital has yet to disclose construction plans for an 11-acre site it purchased in 2008. CEO Michael Lukens said it will likely start out with physicians’ offices and could eventually include outpatient care, urgent care or rehab.
