Bruce Greenstein named HHS CTO: 4 things to know

Bruce Greenstein, former secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, joined HHS as its CTO.

Here are four things to know.

1. In the CTO role, Mr. Greenstein will oversee HHS’ use of data and technology.

2. Mr. Greenstein most recently served as president of Quartet Health, a New York City-based software startup focused on integrated behavioral healthcare.

3. Former Louisiana Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal appointed Mr. Greenstein to DHH secretary, his last government role, in 2010.

He managed a $9 billion budget and led more than 11,000 employees before he resigned in 2013 on allegations he mishandled the state’s Medicaid claims, The Advocate reports. In 2014, Mr. Greenstein had reportedly been indicted on nine counts of perjury related to Louisiana’s Medicaid contract. The charges against Mr. Greenstein were dismissed later that year, according to The Advocate.

4. Mr. Greenstein ran an advisory firm for the healthcare, government and technology sectors across North America and China, according to his HHS staff page.

Mr. Greenstein has also held senior positions with HHS, CMS, Florida state government and Microsoft.
