Boston Scientific recognized for gender diversity improvements

Boston Scientific has been recognized for its work to improve gender representation and leadership, being named a 2022 Catalyst winner.

The healthcare manufacturing company was one of three winners of this year's Catalyst awards, which recognize organizations that drive inclusion and representation for women, according to a Jan. 19 news release.

Boston Scientific created an initiative to accelerate career development and address barriers faced by female and underrepresented employees. As part of the program, the company increased transparency about diversity, equity and inclusion progress, improved diversity and inclusion skills and expanded mentorship opportunities, the release said.

From the time the program began in 2017 through 2020, women in executive leadership roles at Boston Scientific increased from 12.5 percent to 26.7 percent. Women at director and vice president levels increased from 27.6 percent to 33.4 percent, and currently 30 percent of the board (equating to three members) are women, two of whom are women of color, according to the release.
