The medical center has made upgrades to its heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, among other changes, that have already reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent over the last four years. BMC is also adding on new energy efficiency measures as part of a $300 million renovation project.
Together, the changes BMC made are on track to reduce the campus’ emissions 50 percent by 2020 and save the hospital $11 million in its annual energy bill, according to the report.
