Bolstering Food Service to Secure Patient Satisfaction

Food is an significant source of entertainment and pleasure for many individuals, and dietary services often takes on increasing importance for hospital patients who are bored or anxious.

In a blog post for the healthcare analytics company iVantage, Pamela Paxton highlights ideas submitted by hospitals to improve patient satisfaction with hospital food and room service.

Strategies range from supplying afternoon snack carts to gathering feedback on menu choices and adjusting meal times so they do not overlap with nurses’ shift changes. Hospitals also recommend meeting twice per month with hosts, chefs and supervisors to discuss dining options, service models, alternative offerings and team relationships.

One of the more simple tips? “Don’t forget the ketchup — ask patients about condiments!”
