The foundation marks the 18th charity to cancel events at the resort following President Trump’s remarks about recent violence in Charlottesville, Va.
A spokesperson for the foundation told the Chicago Tribune, “We did change the venue. It just took a long time because we had a lot of people to meet with.”
The spokesperson did not specify why the foundation elected to move its event and referred the publication to a second spokesperson, who did not immediately respond to the Chicago Tribune‘s requests for comment, according to the report.
The organization has held its Women of Grace luncheon at Mar-a-Lago for the past four years. The event was also one of the most lucrative for the resort, with organizers spending at least $95,000, the report states.
The Chicago Tribune estimates the canceled events account for more than $1.7 million in lost revenue for the estate.
