Question: Who or what are the disruptors that have your attention? Why?
Jen Johnson: The value based purchasing shift is impacting virtually every valuation we do. The reimbursement environment, and its changes, are critical for us to understand, whether it be a business valuation or compensation arrangement. It becomes especially challenging, not only because it is a moving target, but the regulatory guidance and forecasts around these new payment models are unclear. This can impact our valuation conclusion, and even compliance considerations for our clients – it is keeping us on our toes!
Q: What did you notice about your healthcare experience the last time you were at the receiving end as a patient?
JJ: I pulled a muscle but it hurt so badly, my primary care doctor directed me to the hospital for x-rays. I decided to have my first freestanding ED visit and WOW, there was no one there, service was exceptional, they even took my payment (hi co-pay), while I sat comfortably in my room with a warm blanket!
Q: As a leader, what is the best investment you made in your own professional development in the past five years?
JJ: Reading books on what truly motivates people. I always thought leading through inspiration and being excited about the company and career was important since folks pick up on that as you teach. And I have learned this is more true than ever, especially for the next generation (20s and 30s.)People want to have meaningful input with their work life. The days of being happy as a ‘cog in the wheel’ seem to be fading, so I really like to get folks involved at all levels, every step of the way.
