University of North Carolina Health Care System and Blue Cross and Blue Shield are expected to announce plans to build a primary care facility and exclusively coordinate care for approximately 5,000 BCBS members, according to a News & Observer report.
Both parties are expected to announce the project today, according to the report. Officials expect the practice to be ready by late 2011. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The practice will provide primary care for BCBS members, including some covered by state health plans, with chronic conditions. The practice, which will include physicians affiliated with UNC Health, will offer additional services related to mental health, home monitoring and nutrition. The facility will not have hospital or surgery beds. State regulatory approval is not expected to be required, according to the report.
The CEOs of UNC Health and BCBS said they expect to collaborate on other efforts down the road, possibly on other joint ventures, according to the report.
