Baylor CEO Jim Hinton: It's important to remember Texas' uninsured rate is not OK

Texas has the highest uninsured rate in the U.S. at 16 percent, according to Kaiser Family Foundation's most recent data. Jim Hinton, the recently appointed CEO of Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health, doesn't want anyone to forget that.

"I think [what] is important is that we never act like it's OK for Texas to have such a high rate of uninsured," he said during an interview with The Dallas Morning News. The U.S. as a whole, by contrast, has a 9 percent uninsured rate.

"Our mission is to take care of all people, and we're going to do it regardless of their ability to pay," he continued. "But that cost gets shifted on to somebody. It shows up in the premiums of the people who do pay for insurance. We have to be honest about that."
