Bay Medical Center in Florida Lays Off 27 Employees

Bay Medical Center in Panama City, Fla., is laying off 27 employees, according to a News Herald report.

System President Steven Johnson attributed the cuts to declining reimbursement. The most affected department is construction, according to the report, but the system is also closing its on-site child care clinic at the end of the year.

Mr. Johnson said the hospital will continue hiring positions as needed, particularly those involved in patient care.

The system listed its current employee total as 1,850, according to the report.

Bay Medical Center recently joined Pensacola, Fla.-based Sacred Heart Health System as part of a joint venture agreement between Sacred Heart and Plano, Texas-based LHP Hospital Group.
