Politico first reported the rift Nov. 27, and Axios reported Dec. 5 that President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have personally tried to smooth things over.

President Trump and Ms. Verma met privately in November, and President Trump also met with Mr. Azar to discuss the fractured relationship, according to the latest Politico report. Mr. Pence, who worked with Ms. Verma before the Trump administration, also met with the CMS chief.

Previous reports suggested the personal relationship between Mr. Azar and Ms. Verma had become a roadblock to moving healthcare policy forward. Read more here.
