Here are five things to know.
1. The Assurex jobs were cut earlier this month by the company’s new parent, Salt Lake City-based Myriad Genetics.
2. The job cuts affected Assurex employees in human resources, information technology, finance and customer service roles, according to Ron Rogers, a spokesman for Myriad.
3. In the report, Mr. Rogers said the payroll cut was projected when its acquisition of Assurex was announced in August. At the time, Assurex said the agreement was for $225 million upfront with the potential for $185 million in additional performance-based milestones.
4. Mr. Rogers added, the layoff is “really tied to the acquisition,” noting the laid off employees came from departments Myriad already operates. “For example, you don’t need two IT departments,” he said. “All people in shared services and functions support the company broadly.”
5. Mr. Wright, who was executive vice president and COO, left Assurex Dec. 9. According to Mr. Rogers, Mr. Wright “decided to leave the company to pursue other interests.”
