AONE elects new leaders

The American Organization of Nurse Executives has elected a new president-elect, treasurer and four members of its board of directors to serve three-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2016.

Joan Shinkus Clark, DNP, senior vice president and system chief nurse executive at Texas Health Resources in Arlington, was elected to serve as 2016 president-elect and will then serve a one-year term as AONE president beginning Jan. 1, 2017.

Dr. Clark represents nursing at the senior executive level at Texas Health, one of the largest faith-based, nonprofit health systems in the U.S. In her role, she oversees nursing practice and the standardization and alignment of nursing care through the implementation of evidence-based clinical and managerial standards of practice, according to a news release.

Dr. Clark also serves as the American Hospital Association’s appointed commissioner on The Joint Commission Board, and she is a Magnet Appraiser with the American Nurse Credentialing Center.

She holds a doctorate of executive nursing practice from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and a Master of Science in nursing administration from the University of Florida in Gainesville.

In addition to the election of Dr. Clark, Lamont M. Yoder, CEO of Banner Gateway Medical Center and Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, Ariz., was elected to serve as AONE treasurer.

Elected board members include:

  • Robyn Begley, vice president of nursing and CNO at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Pomona, N.J.
  • Stuart D. Downs, CNO at Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, Ga.
  • M. Lindell Joseph, clinical assistant professor and MSN/CNL program coordinator at the University of Iowa College of Nursing in Iowa City, Iowa
  • Rachel Behrendt, CNO at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix
