Here are six things to know:

1. Amazon released plans in September 2017 to invest more than $5 billion into a second company headquarters in North America. The facility is dubbed HQ2.

2. The e-commerce giant narrowed its list of 238 cities vying to house the second headquarters to 20 in January. That list included  Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Nashville, Tenn., and New York City.

3. People familiar with the late-stage talks told The Wall Street Journal that Amazon’s talks have cooled with some of the cities on Amazon’s short list, including Denver, Atlanta, Nashville and Raleigh, N.C.

4. Negotiations with the top candidates are likely in different phases, according to The Wall Street Journal. For example, in Crystal City, Amazon is negotiating with government officials regarding certain tax incentives and is also talking to a real estate investment trust about the Crystal City real estate that it owns.  People familiar with the talks said that New York City is still actively talking with Amazon.

5. Site selection specialists said Amazon is likely having late-stage talks with at least two cities and has others on hold, in case a deal falls through.

6. Amazon is expected to make its decision by the end of the year.
