All Children's safety issues spark new bill in Florida legislature

Florida lawmakers are considering a bill that would provide the state with more oversight of pediatric state hospitals statewide, WGCU News.

State Sen. Gayle Harrell, R-Palm Beach, filed a bill giving the state more oversight after a series of issues with the heart surgery programs at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.

Under the bill, the state Agency for Health Care Administration would appoint a group of physicians to visit the hospital's pediatric medical and surgical programs, interview staff, and review the hospital's medical records. The group would then submit a report to the AHCA and give recommendations if necessary.

"This [bill] gives [the AHCA] the ability to use the true professionals in the arena … to be able to really see what is going on inside those centers. You have to get those experts to go in and evaluate what is going on," Ms. Harrell said.
