The layoffs, effective Nov. 16, primarily affect laboratory assistants who do blood draws.
Hospital communication manager Teresa Adamo told The Bakersfield Californian duties of the affected laboratory assistants will be taken over by other hospital employees. She said the hospital expects some laid-off employees will find other jobs at the hospital or within the Adventist Health system.
Hospital President Sharlet Briggs attributed the layoffs to necessary restructuring.
“It is a balance between keeping our focus on current needs, while also having an eye toward future, long-term sustainability,” she said.
Adventist Health Bakersfield has about 2,000 employees.
