While addressing the audience, Dr. Rizk emphasized the importance of patient engagement: “Dramatic changes in healthcare are requiring the entire industry to think and act in new ways. For the first time, patients are acting as true consumers. At the point of care, providers will need to have more information to help clarify a patient’s health coverage, and the technology to calculate and break down an accurate, understandable estimate of what the patient’s care will cost before it is delivered. Successful providers will be those who engage patients through active health management and improve their overall experience as consumers through financial education and advocacy.”
With the patient experience so critical to patient satisfaction, Dr. Rizk shared that the front, middle, and back are increasingly converging, with data moving to the front. “We also need to integrate clinical and financial data to create a more comprehensive view of the patient. It is the integration of data and the standardization of processes that will allow health systems to engage patients in a consistent and comprehensive manner. This becomes more critical as reimbursement models become more complex.”
