1. Be niche-dominant. Focus on a specific niche.

2. Be customer-centric. Focus tremendous energy on pleasing your customer.

3. Have a simple business plan. Simple is better than complex. If nothing else, start simple.

4. Make regular and constant professional contact with customers. This must include different modes of communication, and it must be two-way communication.

5. Service and execution is critical. There is nothing worse than sales being ahead of delivery, and nothing worse than a one-and-done mentality with customers.

6. Build teams. Nothing significant gets done without terrific teams.

7. Understand why customers are working with you. Nothing is done in a vacuum. It’s all for the customer.

8. Most businesses are made more complex than needed. Think about things in terms of the great people on your team and great customers or clients.
