7 Hospitals Under Construction or Expansion

Here are seven hospitals that will begin or are currently undergoing construction or expansions.

1. The Connecticut House of Representatives gave final legislative approval on an $864 million proposal by the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington that would expand the hospital’s medical and dental schools and build a new hospital on its Farmington campus. A $318 million tower, a $203 ambulatory care center and a $163 million renovation to the John Dempsey Hospital tower are also included in the proposal.

2. Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill., has officially begun construction on its $220 million patient care tower, which will house the Carle Heart and Vascular Institute.

3. City officials have approved Palo Alto, Calif.-based Stanford University‘s proposed plans for a $5 billion hospital expansion, which includes adding another 1.3 million square feet to the university’s hospitals.

4. Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, N.H., received a certificate of need to renovate the main hospital facility. Renovations are expected to cost between $16-17 million and could start as early as this fall.

5. Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, Fla., is planning to invest $7 million toward facility expansions in order to improve emergency department waiting times. The hospital hopes to have 36 new rooms by the end of this year.

6. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will insure a $14.3 million mortgage loan to the Stillwater Hospital Association in Columbus, Mont., to build a new hospital. The new hospital will include an emergency room, inpatient and outpatient surgery areas, a laboratory, imaging department, primary care clinic and home health agency.

7. The Mayo Clinic in Phoenix is now undergoing construction to add nearly 2 million square feet to its hospital campus. Construction plans include two buildings, one structure that would be committed to educational meetings and conferences and a second structure that will serve as a cancer treatment center.
