7 hospitals cutting jobs

The following hospitals and health systems cut jobs or revealed plans to cut jobs since Nov. 21:

1. St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare cut 200 jobs as an external managed services provider takes on responsibility for most of the health system’s information technology support services.

2. Minneapolis-based M Health Fairview will reduce capacity at Bethesda Hospital to 50 beds and reduce its workforce by about 340 employees. 

3. Pittsburgh-based UPMC will close its hospital in Sunbury, Pa., in March, affecting About 150 workers.

4. Brooks-TLC Hospital System plans to close its TLC Lakeshore Health Center Campus in Irving, N.Y., in January, affecting 141 full-time employees and 60 part-time staff members. 

5. Ellwood City (Pa.) Medical Center laid off 92 employees amid financial struggles and a state order to cease inpatient and emergency services.

6. Nix Health, owned by Los Angeles-based Prospect Medical Holdings, closed Nix Medical Center in San Antonio, as well as its home health division and other facilities. The combined closures are expected to affect 972 employees.

7. Dallas-based Steward Health Care closed St. Luke’s Medical Center in Phoenix, affecting 655 employees.
