5 top concerns shared by CEOs and CMOs in 2016

The number of issues that healthcare executives are dealing with is so great as to be daunting. Throughout 2015, I had many deep and meaningful conversations with CEO's and CMO's at hospitals, physician group practices, and other organizations, working to help them identify and focus on top priorities. I noted and recorded the most frequently recurring concerns – those that CEO's and CMO's expected would occupy most of their time and attention for the foreseeable future.

In no particular order, I narrowed the number down to the top 10 for each and immediately noticed that, while half were different, there were five top concerns that CEO's and CMO's emphatically shared:

The discrepancies between these top concerns, or the five they did not share, is a reflection of different perspectives and priorities. They are all important, of course. Just how important depends on where you sit. The path to progress, however, lies in the overlap, beginning with physician alignment and integration, or integrated leadership.
