5 things to know about Trump’s pick to lead DOJ antitrust division

Makan Delrahim, who previously lobbied for Indianapolis-based Anthem, will be nominated by President Donald Trump as assistant attorney general in the U.S. Department of Justice’s antitrust division, the White House said in a news release Monday.

Here are five things to know about Mr. Delrahim.

1. He joined President Trump’s transition team at the beginning of 2017 and currently works as deputy assistant and deputy counsel.  

2. He was previously a partner at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck in Los Angeles, as well as an adjunct professor of law at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif.

3. Mr. Delrahim also previously served as deputy assistant attorney general for the DOJ’s antitrust division.  

4. Last year, he lobbied for Anthem during the insurer’s quest to merge with Bloomfield, Conn.-based Cigna. A U.S. District Court judge in February blocked the merger. Anthem has appealed this decision.

5. Mr. Delrahim received his law degree from the George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C.
